How to order a Thyroid test.
A Thyroid test includes TSH, T4, and T3 in the human body. Circulating in the blood, T4 and T3 are bound and link to protein molecules. The unbound T3 and T4 represents the bodys thyroid levels. Thyroid levels of free hormone act as the hormone present to react with receptors of cells in the body.
Thyroid levels are low in hypothroidism. Excess TSH is released by the pituitary gland and thyroid levels of TSH rise. A Thyroid test is performed when blood TSH thyroid levels are low, often kept down to levlels below 0.01 mIU per L, hyperthyroidism occurs. In the beginning stages of dysfunctional thyroid or medicine changes, thyroid level may appear normal in patients. Due to this, an FT3 and FT4 thyroid level test needs to be performed.
T4 is primarily produced in the gland of the thyroid with only small amounts of T3. In the liver, the majority of T3 present in the blood is made by conversion of T4 to T3.
